Baby Shower Tips

March 22, 2013 |

baby shower tips

Mothers and sisters Lori Kay Schoeneman & Tara Schoeneman-Brown are creators of Once Upon A TreeHouse, a line of eco-friendly, handmade, wholesome toys that promote quality playtime, and an interactive website with crafts for the family. They recently sponsored a baby shower and made a custom playhouse for Lisa Ling just last month.

Website: www.onceuponatreehouse.com

Tips:

• Select the theme and color scheme based around the nursery decor

• Ask guests to bring along a copy of their favorite childhood book, and they can even inscribe a special message for baby to be

• For a shower activity do a group craft and have the guests create something for the new nursery walls or decorate onesies and burp cloths

• Have a station with an iPad/phone to take a short video of each guest and their special message for the new parents and baby

• Display seasonal planted flowers or herbs in spray-painted pots for centerpieces that double as the party favors

• Have a few quick and easy games like, have each guest cut a piece of ribbon the length they think will best fit around the honoree’s belly, and the closest one without going over wins

• Instead of spending time on watching the honoree open gifts, ask guests to bring the gifts unwrapped or in a gift bag and have a large table or area where they can be displayed.

45th Anniversary of Gemini 12 at Adler Planetarium

45th Anniversary of Gemini 12 at Adler Planetarium

45th Anniversary of Gemini 12 at Adler Planetarium
Friday, November 11 – Tuesday, November 15

Captain James A. Lovell, Jr. and Buzz Aldrin launched into space on November 11, 1966 for the final Project Gemini mission. The objective of the mission was to subject man and equipment to space flight for up to two weeks in duration and perfect methods of re-entering the atmosphere and landing at a preselected point. This successful 6-day mission helped to pave the way for America’s moon landing in 1969.

The fully-restored Gemini 12 spacecraft arrived at the Adler Planetarium in 2006 on loan from the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC. The spacecraft is the centerpiece of the Adler’s Shoot for the Moon exhibition. This permanent exhibition tells the inspiring stories of space exploration and America’s race to the Moon. Among the collection of Captain Lovell’s personal space artifacts, visitors can see the original flight plans and manuals flown on the Gemini 12 mission.

From November 11 – 15, Adler Planetarium visitors can take a guided tour of the Shoot for the Moon exhibition and participate in free activities. Build and test your own rocket building skills in a family workshop and launch a balloon rocket at an activity cart. Little ones can learn through imaginary play by interacting with the Adler’s own “astronaut” in Planet Explorers and embark on their own mission.

Two Key Ways to Optimize for Local Searches

Two Key Ways to Optimize for Local Searches

Two Key Ways to Optimize for Local Searches

"When you perform a search at Google or Bing, the results are significantly influenced by your physical location, even on queries where you don't specify a location," writes Ray Comstock at Search Engine Watch. "So if you're in New York and you search for [pizza], or [hot tubs] or [DMV], your results will be very different than if you do the same searches in San Diego."

To help businesses increase the chances they'll show up in local searches, Comstock offers tips like these:

Create pages dedicated to localized content. Identify information that is relevant to certain geographical areas—whether at the state, city or community level. Examples include dealer locations, shipping rates and climate-based recommendations for your product.

"By doing so," he says, "you not only increase your propensity to show up in organic search queries in those places, but you also potentially improve your conversion rate by creating a more custom experience for ... users [that] speaks specifically to their needs."

Create link connectivity with websites relevant to each region. Pursue reciprocity with local business directories and bloggers. "If you want to make Google believe that your site is a great resource for people in New York," he notes, "they expect to see sites that are relevant to New York linking to you."

Avoid the appearance of spam by selecting link partners that provide your visitors with relevant, valuable content. "They should become a seamless part of the user experience of your site for the best results," he explains.

The Po!nt: Think global, link local. When properly constructed, a local search strategy will create value for customers and search engines.
