where to entertain near mccormick place

Where to Entertain Near McCormick Place Convention Center

Holding events near McCormick place convention center in Chicago just got easier. There are a lot of options within blocks of Chicago’s McCormick Place. Choose from the following restaurants with private dining, group spaces and event spaces in Chicago’s South Loop for your next private party, client event or corporate party:

Zapatista

Zapatista is one of Chicago’s best authentic Mexican restaurants. Favorite dishes include the made-to-order guacamole and the fajitas which are served sizzling hot in a molcajete or lave stone. The menu also boasts excellent steak and seafood dishes and a seemingly endless list of tequila choices. And our guests will love al fresco dining in late spring through early autumn, with our grand outdoor dining area on the sidewalk.

Zapatista is located at 1307 S Wabash Avenue in Chicago’s South Loop, a short cab ride from McCormick Place Chicago and The Hyatt McCormick Place. Zapatista is a great location for any special event. Our family style menu, “Mesa de amigos” (table of friends), encourages an interactive experience in a casual restaurant setting for groups of up to 250.

Room 21

If you’ve got out-of-town guests who want to get an authentic Chicago experience, you could take them to one of the many joints claiming to be the home of Chicago-style pizza or to one of the city’s many steakhouses. But if you want something really authentic, head over to Room 21, a remodeled warehouse with a colorful background. The building housing the eatery is also the location where Elliot Ness first busted Al Capone during Prohibition. In fact, it gets its name from a door labeled “Room 21” found at the end of an escape tunnel during the building’s renovation.

The décor in Room 21’s dining room can best be categorized as upscale brothel, which is fitting in that the famous Everleigh Sisters ran their house of ill repute not far away. The upscale American menu holds its own against the lush décor. Though the prices are so hefty that you might expect that a visit with one of the Everleigh’s employees was included in the meal, you do get a lot of bang for your buck. Room 21 is located at 2110 S. Wabash and within walking distance of McCormick Place Chicago Convention Center.

tommy guns garage south loop

Tommy guns garage <-click here to visit our ad on Hereschicago.com!

Tommy Guns Garage is Chicago’s only original speakeasy dinner theater. Tommy Gun’s Garage is within walking distance of Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center and the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. Enjoy a night with the gangsters and the flappers with dinner and show featuring an audience interactive musical comedy review featuring the gangsters and the flappers. Private semi customized shows are available from 50-200 people.

Opera

Opera is located at 1301 S. Wabash (on the corner of 13th and Wabash) and a short cab ride from McCormick Place Convention Center and The Hyatt McCormick Hotel.
Opera, located in the south loop, is home to Executive Chef Beverly Kim. This space overflows with color and feel of wonderland ambiance. For a truly unique and romantic evening request a private ‘vault’.

Private Dining at Opera is available. Banquet Room Seats 8-14 and the entire Restaurant Seats 200

Reggie’s

Have your next event at REGGIES ROCK CLUB or REGGIES MUSIC JOINT. We accommodate groups of all sizes. In the Rock Club we offer group ticketing for our shows and we have a semi private balcony space that holds up to 80 people and can be rented out for an intimate concert experience. We also have VIP space available for some shows. In the Music Joint we can take group reservations or rent space for your private event. Both venues offer our group food and drink packages to meet all your event needs as well as our 80 passenger Rock Bus available to transport your group. Reggie’s is located at 2109 South State Street and within walking distance of McCormick Place Convention Center and the Hyatt McCormick Place hotel.

earth day chicago 2009

The Windy City returns as a flagship city for Earth Hour 2009 on March 28, when, from 8:30-9:30 p.m., households, organizations and businesses will turn off their lights and turn their attention towards the need for substantial, long-term action to raise awareness about energy efficiency and global climate change. This year’s event will be even larger than last year’s inaugural global Earth Hour event, as 73 cities in 62 countries have already signed on to participate in what the World Wildlife Fund has said will be the “largest climate event in history.” In anticipation of the event this year, I encourage you to check out this short YouTube video of highlights from Earth Hour 2008, which includes some great shots of Chicago’s participation:

While Earth Hour 2009 is still a few months away, we hope you will help us raise awareness about the event throughout Chicago and participate in Earth Hour 2009.

Corporate Team Building in Chicago

Managing change, transformational leadership, team relationships and communication are all ideas that are best experienced first-hand rather than discussed in a conference room. Chicago Sailing’s Team Building offers a custom-designed program that has proven to be extremely successful for participating companies. Experienced instructors guide each team through a series of challenges while sailing, which emphasize the importance of teamwork, communication, cooperation and fun.

Your group’s safety is our higest priority, we start all our events with a full group safety briefing on land with a second individual team briefing by your instructor once sailors board their yachts.

After drawing crews for the boats, the entire group attends a chalk-talk session stressing the fundamentals of sailing, crew positions and cooperation toward a common goal. Then it’s off to the races! Your group will sail a series of races, each lasting about 30 minutes. Crewmembers will rotate positions at the end of each race – helmsman, mainsail trimmer, port jib trimmer and starboard jib trimmer.

Prior sailing experience is definitely not a necessity. Our professional coaches will make sailors out of each participant and have your entire group thinking about challenging for the America’s Cup by the end of the event.

Our race events come complete with flags, race committee and all the trimmings of a really competitive corporate event. Popular at either end of a conference or just as an individual event to build motivation and morale, the thrill of on-the-water competition makes this one of the most fun, non-intimidating and creative team building opportunities in Chicago.

Tradeshow Quick Tips for Exhibiting in a Challenging Economy

Tradeshow Quick Tips for Exhibiting in a Challenging Economy

Top 5 Reasons to Exhibit Now
Quick Tips for Exhibiting in a Challenging Economy

Trade shows serve as valuable sales and marketing vehicles to generate busi¬ness through qualified leads and build brand awareness and relationships. Recent data from the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) indicates the total cost of closing a sale without trade show participation averages $1,140 compared to $705 for a show generated lead.

An economic downturn provides an opportunity for companies to look at their marketing programs holistically. This process may reveal that cutting all trade shows from the budget is not the best way to reduce spending. Instead, by implementing a focused methodology companies can achieve greater results and a better ROI.

“With shrinking budgets and an uncertain economy, executives may be inclined to limit or eliminate their trade show program.” said Rob Murphy, chief market¬ing officer, MC2.

MC2 has developed this complimentary guide to help marketing executives jus¬tify their continued investment in trade show programs. The guide offers top reasons to exhibit and how to maximize trade show participation in an uncer¬tain economy.

1. Efficient Use of Time
Trade shows are one of the most efficient methods of marketing. It is an opportunity to connect with a lot of customers and specifiers in a short amount of time–in one location. After all, trade shows are about people connecting with people, brands, information and business solutions—under one roof. This focus translates into efficiency of time and effort, and therefore, dollars.

2. More Focused and Isolated Leads
During an uncertain economy, budgets may tighten, but the need for new products and services does not necessarily stop. People attend¬ing trade shows are serious about doing business; by not being pres¬ent companies risk missed business opportunities. Also, there are trade shows that are very targeted and specific so you know exactly who will be at the show and on the floor. Think in terms of the quality not quantity of the trade shows in your program.

3. Effective Use of Marketing Dollars
Few marketing activities show a clear ROI. Trade show impressions, contacts, leads and sales are measurable results that have an actual value. Overall costs are easily computed.
When reporting results to upper management and boards of direc¬tors, ROI is not a luxury—it is essential.

4. Bold and Unique Advertising Channel with Minimal Risk
A different course to take is to exhibit at a vertical trade show, which allows your brand to connect with a specific audience with¬out the distraction of your competitors. Since you can qualify with the number of leads collected at the show, this can be a good investment.
For example, a high-end auto brand exhibited at the Consumer Electronics Show, which put this luxury vehicle in front of a huge, affluent audience.

5. Greater Risk in Being Absent
Consider the long-term effect of not exhibiting at trade shows. Especially in a bad economy, being absent from key shows instant¬ly makes you a non-player in the field and puts your competitors top of mind with customers.
However, simply showing up is not enough. You have to plan how you will attract new leads at the show and how you will follow up with them for effective results.

What You Can Do Now for Better Results

While it is important to continue participating at trade shows, simply showing up is not enough. Very few companies measure their trade show participation. With measurement motives in place you can fine tune your program—which is a lot easier to do in advance of the show—for better return on your marketing spend.

• Before you reduce the number of trade shows from your budget, quantify and qualify your investment. Why are we cutting our trade show schedule? Why are we not benefiting from our trade show participation? What are we not doing right?

• Establish a process for following up with sales leads to get the most out of your trade show experience. Are you using all the necessary tools to measure and weigh results properly? Are you gathering and analyzing the right information?

• Engage staff and clearly communicate your company’s strategy to ensure everyone is on the same page. Do you mandate staff training in order to run a well choreographed, efficient show?

• Consider the architecture of your exhibit to enhance each visitors experience with your company and its brand. Are you using or incorporating rental property in your exhibit? Is your booth design consistent with your branding and messaging platforms?

MC2 specializes in design, production and management of integrated marketing programs including events, exhibits, permanent and mobile environments and executive brief¬ing centers. MC2 has 10 locations throughout the United States and alliances around the world.

The Chicago Comedy Company Corporate Entertainment

The Chicago Comedy Company always plays at the top of intelligence, and is dedicated to providing clients and their audiences with clean, inclusive entertainment.

Why Do a Comedy Show?

Sometimes you need a little spice during your corporate gatherings. The Chicago Comedy Company knows these events can be a little dry: presenters can linger a bit too long, and things can get tense when nobody knows how to fix the PowerPoint projector. You can accomplish more than you anticipate when it doesn’t feel like work. Bring in Chicago Comedy Company to present your policy, strategy, or initiative in a fun way that has lasting impact. Or, after your dinner of chicken marsala and rice pilaf, The Chicago Comedy Company can provide a comedy show to say “thank you” to your employees for taking time to attend a company function. The Chicago Comedy Company will work within your budget and agenda to create an original performance that will delight your audience.

Here are some ideas from the The Chicago Comedy Company:

An original show to kick-off a day-long conference
Comedic sketches throughout your Annual Meeting
An Improv Show to cap-off an Awards Banquet
Live Entertainment at your Holiday Party or Company Picnic
Stand-out Presentation at Trade Shows

The Chicago Comedy Company customizes each performance to fit your needs. Whether you are looking for hilarious improv, inventive sketches written just for you, or a blend of both, they will deliver a memorable event.

Improvisation Shows

Due to its spontaneous, audience-interactive nature, Improvisational Comedy is a “you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it” phenomenon. During the show, The Chicago Comedy Company takes suggestions from the audience and turn them into smart, funny scenes on the spot. They are experts at keeping an audience involved, whether shouting out ideas or volunteering to join us on stage. They can further customize the show by dropping in information you provide them in advance, creating improv games to fit your company or industry.

Custom Sketch Shows

The Chicago Comedy Company’s crisp, well-rehearsed comedy sketches are written using information you provide. These scenes may reflect life at your company, convey important information, playfully highlight facts and figures, or simply to have fun with your boss and fellow employees. They can also incorporate serious content and key information by weaving it into our show to provide learning through laughter.

The Chicago Comedy Company Process

Bring them in early to design an imaginative experience for your exhibit booth, corporate meeting, or special event. The Chicago Comedy Company staff will brainstorm ideas for you to choose from, and keep you updated as they create sketches and custom material. You will see scripts well in advance of your show and have the opportunity to offer feedback. They are comedy experts, but you know your audience and your event, and that makes you part of their creative team. While it is beneficial to have as much lead time as possible, if you have a last minute request, they can still cook up a show with just a phone call, a time and a place.

Training and Development
Improvisation Improves Business Communication

Using a combination of interactive improv exercises and facilitated discussion, The Chicago Comedy Company creates workshops designed for corporate participants that address your business needs and link to your goals. The results are unique, engaging workshops that challenge employees and have lasting impact. Throw them into an over-air-conditioned hotel conference room with unflattering lighting, and you’ll forget you didn’t get to sight-see in Orlando.

Flexibility in Training

The Chicago Comedy Company’s customized workshops scale to fit your schedule, from a one-hour energizer to a full-day intensive. They can even create multi-session workshops scheduled over a period of time to focus on multiple objectives and skills. Their customized training falls into the following categories:

Teambuilding Communication Skills Sales Techniques Presentation Skills Change Management Leadership Customer Service Creativity and Innovation Speech Preparation and Speech Writing
